If you go to DEQ for testing the best times are mid morning or mid afternoon. That is when the lines are shortest. On cars 1996 or newer don’t go if your check engine light is on, it is an automatic fail condition. Call me at the shop (503-357-4123) and we will set up a time to diagnose the problem. Often it is a simple problem to fix and will save time by not having to go more than one time to DEQ.

Check your after market extended warranty. If you are told you can only go were you are told, that is not true. You can have your car repaired at the shop you choose.
Today I had a customer tell me they were told only a particular shop could do the repair. If this happens to you don’t hesitate to call me and I will verify what you should do. I will do my best to see that you get your best benefit of your extended warranty. I do extended warranty work often and know how to work with them well. I want you to be happy with the service not the warranty company.

If your check engine light is on and an auto parts store gives you a readout of the code, this not diagnosis. It only tells you what system has a fault in it. Dont let them sell you parts. Instead go to a repair shop (mine) and have them do proper diagnosis. This will save time and money by not paying for unneeded parts that cant be returned if it has been installed. Example P0401 EGR flow fault. An EGR valve may cost $200.00 and the fault might only be carbon pluged passages. All that would need done is clean the carbon out of the system.
